Another Time Out

This is the last day for packing and then tomorrow everything will be loaded up on the truck.  Seeing how it's my last full day in Florida I couldn't resist rushing downtown to Orlando to visit the Dandelion Cafe for a glass of my favorite mint mango iced tea.  Tomorrow we'll spend the morning loading the truck at an easy pace and working around Kasey's schedule as best we can.  Tomorrow by 7pm we should be on the road with a 1000 miles ahead of us before we reach our new home.  Yeah!!

Hope She Remembers...

Our days are numbered here in Florida and soon we'll be calling Indiana home.  That's fine for me but for my husband Bruce and my daughter Kasey Indiana is a somewhat foreign land.  Now down to three days before we load up our Budget truck and head north I begin to wonder, what will Kasey remember of this place five, ten, fifteen years from now?  She's only three and a half years old so most likely she won't remember all that much but I have hopes....

I hope she will remember,

• Saturday mornings at the Winter Park Farmers Market, kettle corn, pain au chocolate, and fresh squeezed lemonade.

• Our days on white beaches with blue waters and yellow, green and purple plastic pails spilling over with all the shells we'd gathered from the waters edge.

• Watching her daddy perform on stage at La Nouba and the hundreds of people around us that applauded his final performance.

• Afternoons playing with Zach and Hannah in Lake Hickory Nut.

• Staying up late to watch Disney's nightly fireworks display from our back porch.

• This shabby little lake house and how we managed through such tough times with our heads up and our spirits high.

Sewing Box

I found this circa 1970's sewing box in the shed that sits behind the lake house the other day.  It was a fun little discovery full of glass beads, bits of ribbon and vintage buttons.  Now if I only knew what to do with it. :-)

1995-2010

Page was given to me when I lived in Virgina in 1995.  He has been my sidekick even since.  He lived in Virgina with me for two years, Indiana for another two years and Florida for eleven years.  He was supposed to go home with us when we moved back to Indiana this July.  He was always a hyper dog, even down to the last few days he'd still try to bounce around as if forgetting he was no longer a pup.  He was a sweet dog too, fifteen years and he never acted out aggressively towards anyone.  What a joy he was in our lives.  He'll be missed...terribly.

And To Think She's Mine...

She kept rolling her eyes as I pointed the SX-70 in her direction pleading with her to let me take "one more picture." 

She hid her face down in her arm and I was just about to give up when I playfully shouted, "Oh my goodness!" 

She dropped all reservations about the camera in front of her and laughed at my catch line...and I caught it.  That smile!!  This to me is all the reward I need in a day.  That happy smile!  

Kasey's Tree Swing

After seeing Rachel's post on Smile and Wave a few weeks back I was inspired to build Kasey a tree swing of her own.  I ran to Lowe's only to discover I was completely lost in the land of rope, deck screws, paddle bits and carabiners.  I unwittingly recruited a Lowe's employee after a good twenty minutes of searching around on my own and handed him my list.  This man found everything I needed and even cut the 8' board of cedar (which would have never fit in my little Civic) in record time.  Awesome!

At home I drug out my husbands tool box and attempted to assemble the swing on my own.  It wasn't long though before my hubby broke away from his school work to see what I was up to...and then laughed at me. 

Bruce built Kasey's swing in under an hour and left it for me to hang in the tree, of course I think hanging it in the tree was the hardest part...humph.

Kasey loves the swing and I love the way the morning light comes off the lake and can't stop taking photos of her while she swings.

Morning At The Lake House

The sun is rising.  Where is my coffee?  The floors creak as I walk through the old house sure to wake my three year old as I attempt to make my way quietly as possible to the coffee maker.  This house has had better days and there is still so much more cleaning to be done before I'm fully comfortable living here for the next four months.  The carpet is not in the best of shape either so my husband suggested we all invest in house slippers.  Of course I chose to have some fun with my slipper selection and found these make-me-smile-in-the-morning cat slippers by Nick & Nora at Target.     

My daughter Kasey and I have been spending a lot of time in the mornings on the back patio that faces the lake.

Flowers make a house feel happy and so do flowery garden gloves.  Kasey took this photo for me, note her feet in the background.
