Off the 135 a little south of the town of Bargersville there is a large white 1880's farmhouse tucked comfortably off the road behind a lush lot of trees and rows among rows of flowers. The sign on the street side states, "Fresh cut flowers by the bouquet or by the stem." I've driven by a handful of times and hesitated pulling in, maybe because I am shy like that or maybe because I'm so quick to avoid the unknown no matter how pretty it may appear. Either way, yesterday I aimed at nothing more than visiting this farm of flowers and purchasing a bouquet for my sister who was celebrating her 15th wedding anniversary.
What I discovered was Fischer Farm Flowers, owned by Ed and Jeanie Fischer. Jeanie greeted me with a sincere sweet welcome as I awkwardly could not stop gawking at how lovely their farm was. She gave me a few color suggestions for a bouquet and after choosing one, (which was hard to do for I really wanted one of every color) she was off cutting flowers while Kasey and I played among Sunflowers, Snapdragons and purple Asters.
Once the bouquet was meticulously arranged Jeanie placed it in a large Ball Jar and then tied a perfectly coordinated ribbon around it to finish it off. I'm pretty sure I was still gawking as I happily handed her the $10 for the flowers.
Funny how venturing out of your comfort zone and doing something new feels so inspiring!
